American Girl is an American line of 18-inch dolls released in 1986 by Pleasant Company. The dolls portray ten-year-old and nine year old girls of a variety of ethnicities living in various times throughout American history. They are sold with accompanying books told from the viewpoint of the girls. Originally the stories focused on various periods of American history, but were expanded in 1995 to include characters and stories from contemporary life. A variety of related clothing and accessories is also available. Pleasant Company was founded in 1986 by Pleasant Rowland, and its products were originally purchasable by mail order only. In 1998, Pleasant Company became a subsidiary of Mattel. The company has been awarded the Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Award eight times.

Elite Model Look is a yearly fashion modeling event held by Elite Model Management, an international model management group. It is a prestigious modeling contest used to discover and launch fashion models in the international fashion marketplace, like the similar Ford Fashion model contest. The girls are typically in the age range of 14 till 18 and notable past contestants include Heidi Klum, Giselle Bundchen, Isabeli Fontana, Frederique van der Wal, Alessandra Ambrosio, Linda Evangelista, Ana Beatriz Barros, Tatjana Patitz, and others (see list below).

In past years, the US finals were recorded to make a high-rated television special called "The Making of a Supermodel", which aired on E! Entertainment Television. America's Next Top Model is reported to have been inspired in part by this prestigious modeling competition. Shows like the Next Top Model franchise and Make Me A Supermodel have become more popular as model searches as they offer instant modeling fame.

Ireland's Next Top Model

Britain & Ireland's Next Top Model (formerly Britain's Next Top Model) (often shortened to BNTM, BINTM or Top Model) is a British reality television show in which a number of women compete for the title of Britain's Next Top Model and a chance to start their career in the modelling industry. It is aired on Sky Living, a British television channel.

As part of the Top Model franchise, it is based on the hit American TV show America's Next Top Model, and it shares the same format. From series 7 onwards, the show has been renamed Britain and Ireland's Next Top Model as it will include contestants from the Republic of Ireland.

In 2012, it was announced that seven past contestants, them being Jasmia Robinson, Louise Watts, Catherine Thomas, Ashley Brown, Annaliese Dayes, Sophie Sumner, and Alisha White, will be appearing on Cycle 18 of America's Next Top Model. Cycle 1 and Cycle 7 are unrepresented.

The series features a group of young female contestants who live together in a house for several weeks while taking part in challenges, photo shoots and meetings with members of the modelling industry. Normally, one poor-performing contestant is eliminated each week until the last contestant remaining is declared "Britain's Next Top Model" and receives a modelling contract along with other prizes.

In a recent BBC interview, Elle MacPherson contrasted the show with the US version, describing BNTM as "Uniquely British, the sense of humour and the styling is very British... more hybrid backgrounds... and I think that is really examplatory [sic] of what's going on in the UK today".
